MASCRADE, India’s Maha Kumbh of thinkers and industry leaders against the illegal and counterfeit practices of trade will start at Delhi on today. This two days summit will have representation from all walks of life, including government, private sectors, social entrepreneurs and foreign dignitaries. All of them will be part of the yearly Manthan (churning) to work towards creating an environment that restricts, if can’t stop, the proliferation counterfeit goods and black market.

First day will begin after hon’ble minister of state for law and justice and corporate affairs, Government of India, Shri P. P. Chaudhary will inaugurate sessions. Day is expected to have discussion around topics on how to ‘up the ante’ against illicit trade through a multilateral response system, a holistic approach to brand protection by engaging more and more consumers, how Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) can help in economic growth and business competitiveness.

Day two will have senior leadership discussion on status quo and how to change towards better trade practices, how to monitor and stop the organized crime in illicit and counterfeit trade with focus on perspective from law enforcement agencies and role of judiciary.

Compare to yesteryear, MASCRADE18 is two full day session instead of couple of evening events. It will also see a larger participation of people, and involvement of many government and international agencies including likes of CBIT (GOI), Delhi Police, Dept. of Homeland Security-Homeland Security Investigations US, WIPO, OECD and many current and former officials of law enforcement agencies. If the big brigade of stalwarts is any indicator then it goes to show how serious Government and FICCI is in taking on the black market, illicit and counterfeit trade and its organized crime.
